All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.

Normally the Danish society is perceived  as being very equal. Men can work in a kindergarten and women can become police officers etc.

According to Bertha, there seems to be some segregation though.

The other day Gustav and a friend were training horse jumping on the riding court, and Bertha wanted to participate.
Liberty for all and the stuff about each individual should pursue his or her happiness free from intervention from the state. Well not in Denmark.

The department of local homeland security (my wife) apprehended Bertha after a short appearance on the riding court.

So that is why she is looking a bit disappointed.
For the sake of any PETA members reading this, Bertha was released as soon as the training of the horses stopped.

I am not allowed to participate..

    1. Hi Bob and Rudy.

Safety is overrated when you are a self confident puppy :-)

We try to enforce a strict no furniture policy, since she will simply be too big in a very short time. But I actually like lying on the floor next to a sleeping Newfoundland dog and help in taking a nap, so there should hopefully be lots of opportunities for that in the future.

  2. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all dogs are created equal, that they are endowed by their owners with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..
She would have made a fine American Patriot in 1776

    1. Hi Bill

It is a powerful statement. Actually impressive that a phrase that old still hasn't lost its power (for a lack of a better word).

I am certain that Bertha would gladly have helped at the Boston Tea Party :-)

Though she looks a bit disappointed, I am sure that she forgot it fairly quickly, but what a terrible situation to find one self in..

  3. Jonas,

She's a cutie and I expect she is training you well. We just kid ourselves when we think we are training our puppies. They are much better at it than we are :-).

Life is better with a good dog than it is without but I must say Sam the Wonder Dog always picks the one spot in the shop where he is most in the way.

    1. Hi Ken

I like the idea that the puppies train us. I know that I am easily nudged in the right direction by a dog.

In the short time that we have had Bertha, I also had to work around her a bit in the shop. For some reason, sleeping right in the front of the bench was a hit.
Luckily for me she decided that the corner behind the shop vacuum cleaner was a better place. So I hope that she sticks with that.

I am sure that I should send my regards to Sam from Bertha.
